Actually, this was a *bug*, introduced by the fix to bug 6574; prior to that
fix, the same registrations were done, but that fix removed them.

I couldn't find the removal in any of the patches for that bug or for bug 6610,
so I'm not sure why it was done.

I will backport this to 1.10.x and 1.8.x, as it's reported as broken there in
