The "auto-scroll if the scrollbar is at the end of something to which data is
being added" behavior is not unique to IDEs; for example, mail readers do that
if you're at the bottom of the list of messages and new messages arrive, OS X's
Console application - and probably other message log viewers - scroll down as
more messages arrive if you're at the end of the list, and I even know of a
packet sniffer that scrolls its list of packets if you're at the bottom of the
packet list and new packets arrive (and have enabled, or, at least, haven't
disabled auto-scrolling). :-)
