Comment # 8 on bug 9690 from 
RFC 1035, section 2.3.1 sets out that the Preferred Name Syntax contains the
characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9, '-', '.'.  RFC 3495, section 5.5 puts in the
additional constraint that for this option, a-z MUST not be used.
