I installed Wireshark version 1.10.1 on my 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 system. The
driver for the Radeon HD4870 display is version 8.850.0.0 dated 19-Apr-2011.
Everything works fine, and there is no hint of the explosive memory consumption
mentioned above.

I re-booted to the 32-bit XP system and updated the HD 4870 driver from
8.861.00 to the latest version (8.970.100.7000 date 16-Nov-2012). The memory
consumption problem still exists, and Wireshark can be manually crashed within
seconds.
