It is fairly common in our group for preferences such as gui.column.format to
be manually edited in profiles that are used with old and current versions of
Wireshark, and in versions with proprietary dissector plugins. In a few cases
we've failed to delete a trailing comma, saved the preferences file, and lost
an elaborate set of column definitions.
