...because it doesn't control how to interpret a given file.
What *might* help would be a way to give certain heuristic openers a higher
priority if the file has an extension/suffix that matches the heuristic, so
that, for example, the ERF reader is called before any other heuristic readers
if the file's name ends in ".erf" (case-insensitive match).
