Changes you make to your preferences apply only to whichever configuration
profile is selected *when you make your changes*. If you want to leave Default
unchanged and put specific settings in a new profile, you have to create the
new profile first, then change the settings.
If this could be better documented somehow please let me know, but I believe
the current behaviour is as intended.
