Thunderbird's search capabilities are interesting, though not necessarily
applicable to Wireshark. It only has one search field, with no buttons except
the actual "search" button equivalent to hitting enter. Typing in this field
does some sort of auto-suggest based on address book and other things, so
typing "fred" pops up a list of people named fred I have emails from (as a
drop-down list from the actual field).
Actually performing a search opens up a completely new tab - search doesn't
interact with the 'standard' message view at all. All results and more advanced
filters are only available in this separate search page that has a
Google-results-esque feel to it.
Ctrl-F opens up a search bar in the current email that is identical to
Firefox's page search bar.
Ctrl-Shift-F opens up an advanced search dialogue of some sort (which doesn't
appear to be available at all through the menus). This one looks similar to
Bugzilla's advanced search, permitting construction of arbitrary queries using
fixed predicates and AND and OR.

Another type of software potentially worth looking at is spreadsheets.
LibreOffice, at least, allows you to search Formulas, Values and Comments
separately.
