Is memory limited for 'steve' user? > Can you reproduce problem on another machine? > I'm also interested what's top RSS of tshark process, on Linux /usr/bin/time > shows this kind of info, but I'm not sure if it works on FreeBSD. > Could you upload sample capture file with problem? Hi Jakub- I have plenty of memory: [steve@nms231s1 freecolor]$ freecolor -b -o total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3470589952 418836480 3051753472 0 0 32305152 Swap: 0 367149056 3927818240 I can reproduce the problem on another FreeBSD 9.0 machine, but it works fine with the same capture file on Windwows XP (tshark 1.8.2 in both cases). User 'steve' has no memory limits. FreeBSD 'time' doesn't give any memory stats, but I ran it anyway: [steve@nms231s1 ~]$ time -p tshark -n -r 20120214-BA_00001_20120214155239.pcap -q -z io,stat,1 (process:65525): GLib-ERROR (recursed) **: gmem.c:240: failed to allocate 64 bytes aborting... Abort trap: 6 (core dumped) real 34.29 user 3.24 sys 8.51 At the same time, I ran this in another console to give you an idea of the memory usage: [steve@nms231s1 ~]$ top -b -d40 -s1 | grep 'tshark\|PID' PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 25 0 85176K 42864K vnread 0 0:00 2.20% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 39 0 269M 226M CPU0 0 0:01 8.59% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 77 0 913M 870M CPU1 1 0:02 17.58% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 79 0 1517M 1472M CPU1 1 0:03 25.68% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 81 0 2161M 2119M CPU0 0 0:04 33.15% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 83 0 2805M 2765M CPU1 1 0:05 39.89% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 83 0 2929M 2884M CPU0 1 0:05 37.06% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 83 0 2929M 2885M RUN 1 0:05 33.89% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 82 0 2933M 2871M RUN 1 0:05 32.37% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2731M wdrain 1 0:06 31.69% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 81 0 2933M 2731M RUN 1 0:06 29.59% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 80 0 2933M 2671M RUN 1 0:06 27.39% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 80 0 2933M 2554M RUN 0 0:06 24.85% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2554M swread 1 0:06 25.49% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 78 0 2933M 2557M RUN 0 0:06 21.97% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2559M swread 0 0:06 19.97% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 77 0 2933M 2567M RUN 1 0:06 18.16% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 44 0 2933M 2569M swread 0 0:06 16.80% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 40 0 2933M 2593M swread 0 0:06 16.70% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 37 0 2933M 2593M swread 1 0:06 16.36% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 35 0 2933M 2637M swread 0 0:07 16.80% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 35 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 0 0:07 17.29% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 41 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 0 0:07 21.09% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 47 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 0 0:08 24.27% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 80 0 2933M 2662M CPU1 1 0:09 27.49% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 0 0:09 30.47% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 81 0 2933M 2662M CPU0 0 0:09 30.57% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 1 0:10 30.08% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 49 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 1 0:10 30.08% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 48 0 2933M 2662M CPU1 1 0:10 31.15% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 48 0 2933M 2662M CPU0 0 0:11 29.30% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 52 0 2933M 2662M wdrain 1 0:11 32.47% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND 65525 steve 1 82 0 0K 8K CPU0 0 0:11 32.47% tshark PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE C TIME WCPU COMMAND [steve@nms231s1 ~]$ SIZE is the total size of the process (text, data, and stack), RES is the current amount of resident memory (both SIZE and RES are given in kilobytes) I've uploaded the BA_00001_20120214155239.pcap file. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
