Wireshark crashes, throwing a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error,
trying to use the remote capture feature.
How to reproduce:
1-Install Wireshark 1.6.6 on Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64bit
2-Install on a Windows 2003 32bit WinPcap (in my scenario it is a VMWARE 8
virtual machine running on the same computer, bridged network card)
3-On the Windows 2003 run the command rpcapd.exe -n
4-Start on Windows 7 Wireshark 1.6.6 and click on Capture Options
5-Select REMOTE from the Interface dropdown list
6-enter the IP of the Windows 2003 in the HOST field and press OK
Result:
The application crashes with Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error
(attached screenshot)
Further testing:
-I tried to specify the port number as well (2002) but it is the same
-I tried to enter an invalid address (valid but unreachable) and Wireshark
correctly tell me that he's unable to retrieve the interface list.
So the error happens only it is able to contact the rpcapd deamon on the
destination host.
