Your report below says that it's on WinXP.  Can you please paste Help -> About
output (or "wireshark -v" from the command line) from that machine?

I believe I repliated your issue on Win7 64-bit with Wireshark 1.7.x
(development build).  It hangs there without showing the captured packets until
you change the window size, right?

My machine (not the quite the latest SVN):
