I like them, so am on the opposing soapbox. The user may not be looking at the
app, especially if the documentation has been made into a hard copy. Pictures
are usually easier to illustrate with, and are somewhat language-independent.
But yes, they expire quickly. Our tech docs team often has to reshoot screen
shots because of minor changes.
