I can (directly, e.g., with File->Open) open this file fine on 1.4.4 and the
current trunk. As mentioned on the Q&A site, the fact that you're talking
about reading from a pipe and the fact that you're on Windows suggests that
this is bug 5309.
Does this problem happen when you do NOT read from a pipe?
Does this problem happen with the latest version (1.4.4)?
