In particular, note that, currently, Wireshark does not support selecting - in
the GUI sense - more than one packet at a time, but it supports *marking*
multiple packets. People can confuse selecting with marking, especially in
versions from the trunk prior to revision 33817, where Control+A *marked* all
packets:

The fix for bug 5115 (of which 4799 is a duplicate) changed the sequence for
"mark all (displayed) packets" to Shift+Control+M - primarily so that, at least
in text entry boxes such as the Filter box, you can use Control+A to select the
entire contents of the text box, but also so that, in the future, we could
consider supporting Control+A to select all packets.
I would strongly suggest that you upgrade to, at minimum, Wireshark 1.4.0,
which is significantly newer than the version you're running, and has many bugs
fixed.
