I can confirm that the workaround of deleting the ~/.fontconfig directory
WORKED for me in being able to start up Wireshark.
In response to the Inkscape issue, I have been using Inkscape regularly, and
recently. May be a cross over issue, but both Inkscape and Wireshark work for
me after deleting the .fontconfig directory.
