If you use "Save As" to save over a file created earlier in the same Wireshark
session (i.e. that did not exist before opening Wireshark), you get two
dialogs:
(1) the usual Windows-style dialog titled "Wireshark: Save file as" saying
"foo.pcap already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
AND
(2) the older-style Wireshark popup (with the big red Do Not Enter icon and
bold font) saying "Capture file: 'foo.pcap' already exists! Please choose a
different filename."
The problem is that you can't see (2) because it is hidden behind the Save As
dialog! Even if the Save As dialog is not directly on top of it, you can't
access (2) because (1) has the focus. And as soon as you press OK on (1), a
new Save As dialog pops up and grabs the focus again. Moving the Save As
dialog doesn't help, because the window does not refresh behind it so you get a
mess.
The ONLY way to get out of this is to hit Cancel, either on the Save As dialog
or on (1). (I.e., you cannot complete the Save As action.)
To recreate the issue:
----------------------
1. Open Wireshark (I used 1.2.2 on Win XP)
2. Capture packets or open an existing capture file
3. Save or Save As to a new filename, e.g. "foo.pcap"
4. Save As (again) to the same new filename
5. When popup asks "Do you want to replace it?", click Yes
At this point you will get a new Save As dialog. Do steps 4 & 5 again to
verify the problem repeats itself. Move the Save As dialog to see the outline
of popup (2), but you can't read the message or close it.
NOTE: If the file already exists before you open Wireshark, this problem
doesn't seem to occur.
