Summary: When wireshark is installed, all network adapters fail
to work. Wireshark can see packets, but machine is
unable to transmit.
Product: Wireshark
Version: 1.0.7
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: Medium
Component: Wireshark
AssignedTo: wireshark-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: george@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Build Information:
I cannot cut and paste as the affected machine has no working ethernet after
wireshark is installed.
Version 1.0.7 (SVN Rev 28014)
This is installed directly from the windows installer available for download
Monday may 4 2009. Installed with default options.
Running windows xp service pack 3, build 2600, with WinPcap version 4.0.2
(packet.dll version 4.0.0.1040), based on libcap version 0.9.5 without AirPcap.
No previous version of WinPcap or wireshark installed.

As soon as wireshark is installed and before it is run, the machine looses it's
network connections. Both ethernet, and wireless.
When I launch Wireshark, I can see packets on the network, however the machine
is unable to transmit any packets.
I have restored the system from backup 4 times, trying different approaches to
solve the problem. Such as uninstalling the Cisco vpn client, making sure an
old winpcap is not installed, uninstalling and later reinstalling my ethernet
drivers, etc.
The system is a Lenovo T61 notebook running Windows XP.
