Recently I was asked to setup Wireshark on an iMAC. These are my experiences.
iMAC PPC G5 OS X Leopard, platform was upgraded to 10.5.5.
After lot of searching and reading I installed installed X11.pkg from Leopard
DVD and tried Wireshark. Didn't work at all.
Later upgraded to 10.5.6 and got the latest SVN build, resulting in the
libfontconfig problem. Replacing softlink as described here solved this but
lead to libpng problem (even worse, it stated providing 1.0.0). No obvious
solution for that.
Started looking at XQuartz, got the latest installer (2.1.3), installed that
and Wireshark immediately worked.
So, should we make XQuartz a requirement for running Wireshark on MAC OS X?
