The page in question says
Macintosh OS X Intel Package
It should probably say
Macintosh OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Intel Package
or something such as that.
If I remember correctly, there was a very big jump in the libfontconfig version
between Tiger and Leopard, due to upgrading to a later version of libfontconfig
(the X developers changed fontconfig so much that, as I remember, there were
versions of GTK+ that wouldn't build on Tiger but would build on Leopard, and
possibly *vice versa*, i.e. the folks responsible for libfontconfig broke API
compatibility!)
That means that, unless I'm missing something, we can't build a binary that'll
work on Tiger and Leopard, and we're building one that works on Leopard, so it
won't work on Tiger.
The main page says
Installers for Windows, Mac OS X Intel 10.5, and source code is now
available.
which does mention the 10.5 requirement (although it should probably say
Installers for Windows and Mac OS X 10.5 for Intel, and source code, are
now available.
or something such as that). The download page should also mention the 10.5
requirement.
(I know of at least one crash on Tiger due to that problem; hopefully this will
prevent further such crashes.)
