Summary: Capture filter doesn't recognise hostname in /etc/ethers
Product: Wireshark
Version: 1.0.3
Platform: Macintosh
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: Low
Component: Wireshark
AssignedTo: wireshark-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: ghewson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Build Information:
Version 1.0.3 (SVN Rev 26134)
Copyright 1998-2008 Gerald Combs <gerald@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> and contributors.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Compiled with GTK+ 2.12.9, with GLib 2.16.3, with libpcap 0.9.5, with libz
1.2.3, without POSIX capabilities, without libpcre, without SMI, without ADNS,
without Lua, without GnuTLS, without Gcrypt, with MIT Kerberos, without
PortAudio, without AirPcap.
NOTE: this build doesn't support the "matches" operator for Wireshark filter
syntax.
Running on Darwin 9.5.0 (MacOS 10.5.5), with libpcap version 0.9.5.
Built using gcc 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465).

In capture options, specifying capture filter "ether host foo", where foo is a
hostname in /etc/ethers, gives the error:
> Invalid capture filter: "ether host foo"!
>
> That string isn't a valid capture filter (unknown ether host 'foo').
Copying /etc/hosts to $HOME/.wireshark/ethers gives the same result.
Using an identical /etc/ethers file on another computer, there's no problem
with the current Kubuntu Wireshark package (version 1.0.0).
