I've identified the problem which causes the crash reported.

Unfortunately: looking at the code (packet_ncp2222.inc) I see quite some number
of manifestations of the problem which will occur for different types of data
in NCP packets.

I expect this may explain: "I have had this so often ...."

Fixing the problems will require some amount of going through the code to fix
and then test; I expect this will take a few days (possibly until next week).
