Slight correction: The problem is actually with the GTK2 widget; Although the
use of the widget is deprecated, I have to believe that the problem breaks
other programs. It certainly broke one of the official gtk test programs (at
least in my Windows environment).

0.99.7 is OK; It's using the previous versions of gtk/glib which do not have
the problem.
(The gtk/glib upgrade was done just after 0.99.7 was split off).
So: if using GtkComboBox is decided as the way to go, then it would just be
part of 0.99.8.
