------- Comment #8 from ljk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2006-08-16 01:46 GMT -------
I have been experiencing similar CPU utilization (80-100%) while opening up
dialogs, opening log files and capturing packets. It looks like a GUI related
issue to me, as when I scroll around a log that I have opened (a 1 meg log can
take 3+ minutes instead of 10 seconds like on most of my other machines), I see
the CPU surge to 100% in the ethereal.exe/wireshark.exe process. Even without
a log open, I see smaller spikes and sluggish window painting as I move over
the drop down menus.
However, I have tried the versions listed in this bug that seemed to work ok
for the original poster and saw no improvement. I'm currently using Wireshark
0.99.2 with the same behavior. I have tried disabling ARP, etc.
I'm using a Dell D610, Pentium M 1.86 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and an ATI Mobility
Radeon X300 with 64 MB (ATI driver dated 12/3/2004 with a version of
6.14.10.6483). I'm running Windows XP Pro w/SP2 with no special GUI modifiers
(i.e. "Window Blinds").
What additional information do I need to provide to help move this bug along?
Thanks,
Lawrence
