Then the questions should probably just be asked on ethereal-users (or
wireshark-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, as per the recent move and name change).

Ethereal on Windows is built as a 32-bit x86 application; it might work,
but slowly, on IA-64 systems, but should work well on AMD64/EM64T ("x64")
systems.
If you want to capture packets, however, you will need the 4.0 alpha 1
version of WinPcap; older versions of WinPcap don't support 64-bit
Windows. Note that the 4.0 alpha 1 version supports AMD64/EM64T, but
*not* IA-64.

It's still listed in the Wireshark bug database:
http://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=968
without any workaround or fix listed.
