We got the a binary version of libpcap (version 0.9.3) from the Sun Freeware
Page.

# ethereal -v

Compiled with GTK+ 1.2.10, with GLib 1.2.10, with libpcap 0.7.2, with libz
1.1.4, without libpcre, without UCD-SNMP or Net-SNMP, without ADNS, without
Lua.
NOTE: this build doesn't support the "matches" operator for Ethereal filter
syntax.

Running with libpcap (version unknown) on SunOS 5.9.

Where did you get libpcap from?  Did you download it from tcpdump.org and
build from source, or did you get a packaged version from somewhere?

What does "ethereal -v" print?

What does "ldd ethereal" print?
