Ethereal-users: RE: [Ethereal-users] 250000 packets?
Note: This archive is from the project's previous web site, ethereal.com. This list is no longer active.
That depends on what type of packets they
are. Cablemodems tend to have an awful lot of ARP traffic, so if the majority
of those packets are ARP packets (and they are spread evenly over the 6 hour
period) then this probably isn’t something to be concerned about.
However, if your PC is moving large amounts of data on a TCP/UDP port, then you
need to make sure you know which application is responsible.

Subject: [Ethereal-users] 250000
packets?
Hey everybody, I am totally new to ethereal. I just
ran a random capture last night before I went to bed to see what would
happen. When I got up it had capture almost 250000 packets in 6 hours. Now I
was wondering is this normal for a cable modem? Or is my computer going
crazy sending and receiving packets? I am on a cable modem with winXP.
