First, look in the Edit -> Preferences dialog at the list of protocols, and, for various protocols that you might see on the network, check them and see if there are any options for reassembling fragments or segments or whatever term it uses.

Then try turning those options off, and save the preferences with the Save button. That'll change the default not to do reassembly.

Reassembly is the most likely form of state to consume a lot of memory.
