Hi Koichi,

This means the capture file could not been closed in a regular way.

When capturing, the data are stored in large blocks to files. So the file finishes within packet data. When ethereal is stopped "softly", i.e. by condition or ^C, the last, incomplete block will be saved. If not, the file remains uncompleted - reading it will cause the notice you wrote about. This occurs in abort of system, ethereal or so on.

Regards,
Veiko

Subject: [Ethereal-users] Question: what does massage mean?

Dear support members,
I got message that "The capture file appears to have been cut short in the
middle of a packet", when I save the captured RTP packets and also when I
open this saved file. I would like to know exactly meaning of this message.
Does this message mean that captured broken packets or packets have broken
by captured? Please give me any advice.
Best regards,
Koichi Dan
