Dear Etherealers,

I would like to ask whether, in the near future, the UDP-Lite protocol
(as standardized per RFC 3828) will be supported in Ethereal. The
current version of Ethereal (0.10.13) does not ship with it.

At the University of Aberdeen, we have been maintaining a kernel patch
for UDP Lite, up to version 2.6.14.3 of the Linux kernel.
The protocol is not hard to decode (crudely speaking, it is plain UDP
with a variable-length checksum), but it would be good to have it
within Ethereal.

To implement an update of Ethereal would cost us much time and so we are
asking whether someone has already planned to do this. In turn, we offer
to support this by supplying:
   * protocol trace files (packet captures) whose contents
     conform to RFC 3828
   * kernel patches and test programs
   * scripts to generate reference packet formats are under way

We have also contacted L-E. Jonsson, who is the other author of the RFC,
but also no further indication of UDP-Lite support in Ethereal

Best regards
