I had tried ethereal with several computers and it worked perfect, other applications stayed intact until I tried it with my laptop that uses Proxim Orinoco 802.11b Gold Client PC card (8420-WD). The problem was that when I ran ethereal, I still saw packets were captured but during the time it was running I could not browse the Internet no matter with IE or Firefox. I tried turn off the promiscuous mode, but the problem still remained. After stopping ethereal, I could browse webpage normally again. I have also checked at http://micro-logix.com/WinPcap/supported.asp and saw that winpcap works well with my wireless card.

"Works well" doesn't necessarily mean "lets you access your network at the same time as you're capturing traffic".

What happens if you capture with WinDump? While WinDump is running, can you browse the Internet?

What happens if you don't turn on promiscuous mode while capturing? (There's a checkbox for that in Ethereal; WinDump and Tethereal have a "-p" command-line flag to turn off promiscuous mode.)
