Sure:

1. Use encryption (VPN)

2. Make sure there are only trusted computers in the LAN and that the
   users are working with limited rights (read: No administrator-/root-
   account for a user you don't trust).

3. Use a Switch and make sure nobody has the password to configure it
   (also check it the SNMP is turned off or the community string is
   changed).  

4. Activate port-security on the switch to prevent mac-address flooding
