When I run "xhost" on Solaris I have

# ./xhost
./xhost:  unable to open display ""

Any parameters should apply..?

What have you set the DISPLAY environment variable to?

Generally?  No, because the way that's done depends on the X server. 
For X servers on UN*X systems, it's typically done with the "xhost" 
command.  For X servers on Windows, e.g. Hummingbird's, it might be done

through something in the GUI.
