Hello,
you can install the Ethereal in one of the PC's where you are running
the softphone applications. Voice is RTP over UDP, so capture all the
UDP traffic running between both IP addresses where the softphones are.
Provided that the voice profile is G.711 A-law, stop the capture, force
(if needed) its decoding as RTP (Ethereal sees the RTP usually as UDP if
it does not have session information telling which UDP ports are used
for RTP) and extract the audio to format AU. That also works if mu-law.
For other codecs, you will need to decode (G.729 or G.723), look for
info in the wiki.

Jose

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if you people could help me out.
I intend to do two things.
1. Capture the packets (using Ethereal) flowing between a voip
conversation ( taking place through softphones installed in two PCs).
I guess to do this we have to install Ethereal in a Linux system and
operate it in the monitor mode. But , i am not able to understand how
to operate Ethereal in monitor mode and how to go about.
2.Use the caputured information and try to bring back the voice
( speech) from it.
Can anyone please suggest me how to go about ?
please do reply me asap.
regards,
Anand.
