No I'm not seeing any packets
I changed the time format after stopping and before starting a new capture
Your assumption is correct, The browser is on the same box as ethereal.

And you're not seeing any packets, regardless of whether you do an 
"Update list of packets in real time" capture or not?

Did you change the time format while an "Update list of packets in real 
time" capture was in progress?  (And what's the significance of the time 
format here?)

I assume "went to several sites" means you went to several sites with a 
browser; was the browser running on the same machine that was running 
Ethereal?
