My apologies if you interpret my direction as rude -- I did say "please"  :) 

Like many email lists, this one is very busy.  Many beginners don't seem to take the time to read the documentation and learn the fundamentals before requesting help.  The questions are vague and the responses usually generate more questions.  

The Ethereal web site is an excellent source of information.  As users of "free" software, we all owe it to the many Ethereal developers to read it.
