This isn't a
browser download problem. I had someone else here use Opera to download the same
installer, e-mail it to me, and I burned it onto a CD. From this CD, the install
worked fine on a Win XP system, but failed to install on my WinNT4 system.
Either 0.10.9 Ethereal does not work with WinNT4, or there is some kind of
strange problem with my NT4 system.
As for the
uninstall comment, the Windows Add/Remove programs option shows Ethereal in its
list, even though it didn't install completely. But I can't remove it, either,
which is annoying.
Apparently, I'm
stuck waiting for my new test PC with Win XP Pro to arrive.

No
luck. I tried installing the GTK1 option twice, and I get the same result:
"Error decompressing data! Corrupted installer?" after it gets a good way into

I
can't even get Windows to do a successful uninstall at this point.
Is Ethereal even *installed* if the installer failed? If not, then you
probably won't have much success trying to install something that's not
installed....
