Can you try to reinstall the winpcap utility?
winpcap is the utility/dll on windows which ethereal calls
to do the actual capturing.
(ethereal does not capture itself, it calls winpcap and lets winpcap
do the capturing).
maybe something happened with the winpcap installation.
