In fact, that's probably what the "router" on his network is (for example, it might be a "broadband router", or whatever those devices that you plug your DSL/cable/etc. line into, and that you plug your computers - or other Ethernet-equippend Internet-attachable devices - into, and that does NAT for those computers so they can all share the broadband connection; they tend to include a switch, which is what you plug the computers, etc. into).
