You can currently not save any other codecs than G.711 A-law and G.711U-law in au-file
directly from Ethereal.

It is possible to save in rtpdump format for any codec (both audio and video) and use e.g.
rtplay to replay the rtp-stream towards JMF JMstudio, Apple QuickTime player and similar if they support the codec.
You save in rtpdump format with "Save As" button in the "Show all streams..." dialogue.

I have not yet found any good method for G.729 codec. You may need to write a program that
reads the rtpdump file and converts it to au-file or similar.

It is probably not possible to add support for G.729 directly in Ethereal due to license/patent issues
for that specific codec (and some other codecs).

I think it's time for this to go into the FAQ.

If you could write up a FAQ entry, I can add it.
