Hello Anders,
I entered " rpm -qa |grep ethereal" in a terminal window and got the
following: Ethereal-base-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-gtk+-net-snmp-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-base-net-snmp-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-debuginfo-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-gtk+-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-kde-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-gnome-0.10.0a-1.RH9
Ethereal-usermode-0.10.0a-1.RH9

I also noticed that Ethereal was in the Application menu, however, when I
click on it nothing happens. I looked at the properties and "ethereal" was
in the command line.

Just so that you are aware, I am not used to using Linux. Atually this is
my first time. We have a PC with Linux that we use for a FTP server. We are
having performance problems with a product and that is why I am trying to
load Ethereal. Any ideas or suggestions for starting the application. The
PC is running Linux 7.3.

Thanks,
Cliff.

Hi,
the important part is:
"Find the ethereal-gnome or ethereal-gtk+ RPM, and install that also."
FAQ=
--snip--
Q 3.1: I installed an Ethereal RPM, but Ethereal doesn't seem to be
installed; only Tethereal is installed.

A: Older versions of the Red Hat RPMs for Ethereal put only the non-GUI
components into the ethereal RPM, the fact that Ethereal is a GUI program
nonwithstanding; newer versions make it a bit clearer by giving that RPM a
name starting with ethereal-base.

In those older versions, there's a separate ethereal-gnome RPM that includes
GUI components such as Ethereal itself, the fact that Ethereal doesn't use
GNOME nonwithstanding; newer versions make it a bit clearer by giving that
RPM a name starting with ethereal-gtk+.

Find the ethereal-gnome or ethereal-gtk+ RPM, and install that also.

Anders

When I did the grep I got Ethereal09-0-8-6. Is this correct? How do I
run it in KDE or can I?

You probably didn't actually install all of the packages. See the FAQ:

http://ethereal.com/faq.html#q3.1

You might want to check the output of

rpm -qa |grep ethereal
