Ethereal-users: [Ethereal-users] WinXP/2K crash on startup - only with Gtk-wimp enabled

Note: This archive is from the project's previous web site, ethereal.com. This list is no longer active.

Date: Wed, 25 Aug 2004 01:03:36 +1000
Uninstalled 10.6, installed 10.5.a - starts up no problems.
Then reinstalled 10.6 _but did not enable Gtk-wimp_

and it lives!!!

re-enabled Gtk-wimp and it crashed again on startup, so it's fairly conclusive this is where the problem lies.

For those experiencing problems with 10.6, don't enable Gtk-wimp

Could someone please update website so users don't have to trawl mailing list to find this workaround?

Thanks

PW

Folks,
I'm afraid it's true. There's a problem with 0.10.6. It crashes on startup. This is with

Ethereal 0.10.6 release download from www.ethereal.com
WinPCap3.0
Windows XP Pro 2002
Pentium P3, 256Meg
NIC = Intel Pro 1000MT ( PWLA8390MT) Tried old drivers - 7.0.x and latest, 8.0.57

Could O.L.N.Rao please post his NIC's details to compare?

Might other stuff cause problems, like PXE boot rom or SNMP?

Same deal, installed WinPCap, Ethereal & ran it - crashed
Rebooted - ran ethereal - crashed

Hello All,
-----------------------------
I have just installed Ethereal 0.10.6 version from http://ethereal.secuwiz.com/distribution/win32/ethereal-setup-0.10.6.exe
on Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4).

I can not run ethereal now !! :(
I have WinPCap 3.0 version installed.

I tried to reboot and check...but the problem persisits.

Is anybody there using ethereal on windows and encountered the same problem.
If so, did you solve the same.

Regards,
O.L.N. Rao

Hi.

Someone has reported problems running ethereal (and snort, as well) on
windows XP Service Pack 2. Has anyone here experienced problems capturing
packets AFTER having installed XPSP2??

Have a nice day
