(- evidently also known as the "buffer ring" option)

I've reworded my queries for brevity. I hope this will join the
thread I started before...

1. Is there a way to specify a ring of capture extents for tethereal
which does not require a maximum filesize limit to be specified ?
I want to switch capture extents only at fixed time intervals.

Please don't tell me to code the filesize limit as a high number -
   I've tried that. See (2).

2. Is there a bug with the -a filesize:nnnnnn limit when used with
   the ring file option ?

The option worked when I specified 1000000, but I found that if
nnnnnn was coded as 50000000 or higher, the extent switching
occurred several times a second - in fact, it seemed to be
switching after just one frame per extent, as if the filesize
   limit being used was ZERO.

Best regards, Adrian.
