You can configure IE to NOT send the "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate" HTTP header item by unchecking the "use HTTP 1.1" and "use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" under tools-->internet options-->advanced tab. This works on W2K IE5.5 and W2KSP4 IE6.0, maybe other versions also.
