sigh. when I read this post I thought "that can't be
it, i'm plugged into a dumb hub."  then i checked out
the model and what I thought was a hub is actually a
switch. =P  thanks for your reply and sorry to take up
webspace with this thread.  i tried plugging into a
real hub and what do you know... the 3Com card sniffs
in promiscuous mode just fine. =P
