May be somehow off-topic, but here it goes: has anybody used Ethereal
for Industrial Ethernet applications/protocols? I just found out about
a need for implementation in my company, and was wondering if Ethereal
would be of any help in identifying things like:

http://www.ida-group.org/
I have never had exposure to anything like this, but it appears to me
that - besides being probably a marketing term, to some extent
("industrial" ethernet being no different than "office" ethernet, as
far as fundamental specs of ethernet are concerned) - this may also
introduce some new "on-top-of-ethernet" protocols, as well as
requirements for QoS.
TIA,
Stef
P.S. I would also appreciate off-line/direct email comments (as they
may not fit this list), about Industrial Ethernet, from hands-on
experience, from anybody willing to share info such as: management of
networks under these new constraints (real-time delivery of info, with
higher priority than even VoIP - at least the way I see it now),
traffic segregation solutions (again - practical experience would be
appreciated, not links to docs/web sites from vendors biased toward
solutions helping to sell more of their products - e.g. specialized
switches or routers, micro-firewalls), etc.
