I have been using Ethereal for several years and love the app. I have never
had an issue with compilling this before, and have done so on many platforms.
Here is my system config..
Mandrake 9.0
2.4.19 custom kernel
The Ethereal package has been configured with the following options.
Build ethereal : yes
Build tethereal : yes
Build editcap : yes
Build mergecap : yes
Build text2pcap : yes
Build idl2eth : yes
Build randpkt : no
Build dftest : no
Install setuid : no
Use plugins : yes
Use GTK+ v2 library : no
Use pcap library : yes
Use zlib library : yes
Use pcre library : no
Use GNU ADNS library : yes
Use IPv6 name resolution : yes
Use UCD SNMP/NET-SNMP library : yes (ucd-snmp)
This error is coming from the GTK makefile..
Making all in gtk
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/mark/archives/ethereal-0.10.1/gtk'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `Makefile.common', needed by
`Makefile.in'. Stop.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/mark/archives/ethereal-0.10.1/gtk'

I also tried making the gtk standalone.. with the following result.
*** No rule to make target `Makefile.common', needed by `Makefile.in'. Stop.
