Hello,
I just bought an iMac and I am taking a class in school where I need
to capture packets. I went to the Fink website and downloaded their
stuff for the Mac, but then it says I need to "install" packages. Is
there a simple way to capture packets using a Mac? I've tried going
through the Fink Faq page, but it seems that it just all about the
Unix side of things. I just would like something that would give me
instructions...step #1, step #2, step #3, and so on. Is there such a
thing?
If you want Ethereal, then you have to have a batch o' packages
installed to handle the GUI aspects of the program. It's part of the
Joy of Ethereal.
If you just want to grab packets and stare at them, tcpdump is
available on Mac OS X. Check "man tcpdump". You may have to install
the BSD component if it is not already installed to get tcpdump.
