Win32 Binary Distribution

To get up and running with Ethereal, do the following:

1. If you wish to capture live network packets, download and install the WinPcap packet capture driver, version 2.3 or 3.0. 3.0 is the current recommended version. It supports multiprocessor machines and Windows XP.
   

   Those versions are listed below as "WinPcap_2_3.exe" and "WinPcap_3_0.exe".

   Additional WinPcap versions (including newer alpha and beta releases) can be downloaded from the following locations:
   

   The local (ethereal.com) mirror
   The main WinPcap site
   The Wiretapped.net mirror
   

   If you have an older version of WinPcap installed, you must un-install it before installing the current version.

   If you do not have WinPcap installed you will be able to open saved capture files, but you will not be able to capture live network traffic.

   Note that merely installing WinPcap will not install Ethereal. You will have to install Ethereal separately; see the next step.

2. Download and install Ethereal. The latest version is listed below as "ethereal-setup-x.y.z.exe". Older versions are in the old-versions directory.
