The command line version of Ethereal is "tethereal". Running "ethereal" from
the command line will start the gui, and there must be a windowing system
running to start the gui on. Running tethereal will use the text interface.
This is probably what you want.
If you have X running, and want to use gui ethereal but it isn't working,
make sure you have the variable "display" in your environment. IIRC the
correct value is
:0
(that's colon zero)
Or to run on a remote machine:
hostname:0
This variable is invariably set in xterm etc. but otherwise may not be.
