That might have been me that changed the defaults some time ago.
The thing was that I thought that both sequence number analysis (which is
very useful) and relative sequencenumber (which makes the
sequence numbers humanly readable) was, im ny view, very useful and requires
very little state to be kept inside ethereal.

it was probably changed since these features are so
1, cheap (re memory and cpu consumption wise)
2, useful
3, most users never look in Edit/Preferences and would not [see|benefit
from] them othervise.

sorry for the confusion. they can be disabled in the preferences.

Thanks for the information. I'm sorry but I didn't check the "Relative
sequence
numbers and window scaling" option after upgrading the version and it was
on! Obviously the default setting for this option was changed to on compared
to former versions?!
